 Baby-wearing tips

v     Always attempt your first baby-wearing session when neither you nor the baby are tired or hungry or otherwise ‘having a bad day’.  Be sure baby is changed and fed first.  You want baby’s first experience to be a pleasant one.

v     As soon as you have baby comfortable in the sling GET MOVING!  Babies like the motion of being carried in the sling.  Go for a walk but don’t plan on making it a long trip.  You can work up to long outings as baby (and you!) gets used to the sling (this is especially true if your child is a little older.)

v     Baby-wearing is an art.  It might take a few tries to get it right.  DON’T GIVE UP!  Try different carriers and carries.  Practice.  Get help if you need it.

v     Most carries are most comfortable if baby is worn high and kept close.  Most babies prefer to be vertical except when nursing.  Older babies with good head control usually prefer to be able to sit up and look out.

v     Always be sure fabric is supporting your baby well while in the carrier.  In most carries fabric should be under baby’s legs for support.

v     Keep fabric as spread out as possible across your back and not too high on your neck.
